Avanti! was born of the need for a comprehensive Italian course. Often, when preparing classes, we have had to search for ideas from a number of sources... make up most of our own materials... reading passages, games, written exercises and suitable songs.
But it takes more than a couple of people to make, what we believe, is a tun book and a zany radio series. These are some of the people involved in the production of Avanti!
The Avanti! project has been designed to create a comprehensive course in Italian for young Australians.
Every effort has been made to meet young language students “where they’re at”. Together with the artists, we have always aimed to keep Avanti! lively, imaginative and humorous... if not downright cheeky in places.
Even the most cursory glance at the illustrations on almost every page of Avanti! will reveal the Australian perspective of the course. One of the underlying themes of Avanti! is cultural comparison, using the students’ experience as the point of reference.
