The Panov Attack lies at the intersection of many popular openings. Although it is canonically treated as a Caro-Kann, where the moves 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.exd5 cxd5 4.c4 are usually played in that order, But it can also arise from the English (1.c4 c6 2.e4 d5 3.exd5 cxd5 4.d4), and transpositions are not only possible but even common from a wide variety of openings, including the Nimzoindian, Ragozin, Semi-Tarrasch, and Scandinavian (1.e4 d5) openings.
