Lozitskiy Oleksandr. Game Programming with Open 3D Engine: Getting Started with 21.11+
Independently published, 2022. — 349 p. — ISBN13: 979-8429340180.
Learning how to create games in a new game engine is a difficult task. It is easy to get bogged down in details. This book is written with an idea that the best way to teach an engine is by gradually introducing topics one element at a time, just enough to get you past the task at hand. Then we loop back and introduce deeper systems involved once you have enough context to understand why you need them.
Each chapter was carefully considered. Was it necessary to move forward? Was it understandable given the topics presented so far? Did it introduce the bare minimum of new concepts and ideas to accomplish the task? Our goal here is to learn the engine and its various subsystems.
By the end of the book you will learn how to create a single-player mini-game, "Chicken Soccer, " and then convert it into a multiplayer game. I will cover O3DE entities and components, modules, inter-component communication, building a player character, physics, animation, sound, and user interfaces; and finally, convert the game to multiplayer with local prediction and responsive player controls.
