Zweite umgearbeitete und vermehrte Auflage Leipzig (Verlag des Bibliographischen Instituts) 1876-79. Zweite Abtheilung — Vögel. Zweiter Band 1879: Raubvögel, Sperlingsvögel und Girrvögel. XVI, 699 p.
This second edition of "Brehms Thierleben" is enriched with illustrations by Gustav Mützel (1839-1893) and Eduard Oscar Schmidt (entomologist, 1823-1886), of which Charles Darwin said they were the best he had ever seen in a work. However, the text is still largely unchanged and shows the "real" Brehm with its great treasure of stories about the emotional world, soul life and behavior of animals.
