Robert Frank is an American photographer of Swiss origin who has had a significant influence on the development of documentary photography. Frank became the first photographer from Europe to be awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. He became widely known for his project The Americans, a book that collected more than eighty photographs he took during a road trip across the United States. This book was initially received sharply negatively by American society, but a few years later Robert Frank's vision of America gained recognition. And after a few decades, the project “The Americans” has already become a true classic of the documentary genre.
