“Boys” is a short story by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, written in 1887. Volodya, a 2nd grade high school student, comes home to the Korolev family for the Christmas holidays from afar. His friend Chechevitsyn comes to stay with him. To Volodya's sisters he introduces himself as Montigomo, Hawk Claw, leader of the invincible. Volodya does not play, as usual, with his sisters, does not participate in the pre-holiday preparations of the whole family, but talks privately about something with Chechevitsyn. The sisters overhear and learn that the boys are preparing to escape to America. But they couldn’t escape far: they were returned from Gostiny Dvor in the nearest city, where they were looking into the possibility of buying gunpowder...
