Chekhov Anton Pavlovich - great Russian writer, born January 29, 1860. (Taganrog, Ekaterinoslav province) died July 15, 1904. (Badenweiler, German Empire).
Chekhov's main character is an ordinary person with his own daily affairs and worries. A subtle psychologist, a master of subtext, who uniquely combined humor and lyricism.
The originality of his creative method lies in the use of a technique called "stream of consciousness", later adopted by James Joyce and other modernists. Alien to abstract moralizing, Chekhov believed that the role of the author was to ask questions, not to answer them.
