Read by Paul Hecht.
As Richard Jury, detective superintendent of Scotland Yard, begins the investigation into the death of a five-year-old girl fatally shot in the back, the body of a murdered woman is found at Angel Gate, the estate owned by Declan Scott. Three years earlier, Declan's young stepdaughter, Flora, disappeared from Angel Gate, and his wife, Mary, later died there. False identities complicate this story, which focuses on pedophilia. Paul Hecht reads this 19th Jury murder mystery with a low baritone; at times it's hard to differentiate some of the characters-it requires careful listening. Nonetheless, this is recommended for public libraries, especially those that have earlier Richard Jury books.
