Duffy Michael. The Military Revolution and the State 1500-1800
Exeter University Print, 1981. — 96 p. — (Exeter Studies in History).
This volume contains an excellent set of incisive essays that examine the ‘bigger’ picture of the age of the military revolutions. Each essay, including the Introduction, although originally read as conference papers, have been skilfully edited and revised to flow together to give a new look at factors at work in the age of the military revolutions. I have read a lot of books on the subject, and for its size, and despite its age, this will give you a new perspective on the subject. The Volume's content and authors of essays:
Introduction – The Military Revolution and the State 1500-1800 – Michael Duffy;
Plunder and Rewards of Office in the Portuguese Empire – Malyn Newitt;
The Military Revolution and the Professionalisation of the French Army under the ‘Ancien Regime’ – Colin Jones;
The Foundation of British Naval Power – Michael Duffy.
