When setting out I intended to write a book that would embrace the land law of the European Union and property aspects of the European Convention on Human Rights, and even the substantive land laws of European countries. Large enterprises are often driven by a touch of naiveté, and it soon became apparent just how vast was the seam of material waiting to be mined and how greatly my scale had to be limited to create a manageable volume.
