The World Championship match in London between Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Caruana is easily the most anticipated event of the year. Duels for the highest title are always fascinating and often dramatic, and this one is surrounded by an unusual additional suspense. For the first time since he became World Champion in 2013, Carlsen is not the undisputable, odds-on favourite. If push comes to shove, most of the pundits still lean towards the Norwegian in their predictions, but there are doubts, too. Because Caruana has become such a formidable opponent.
