Rowling Joanne. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, is the second instalment in the Harry Potter series written by J. K. Rowling. It continues the story of Harry Potter during his second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the novel, the mysterious attacks on students and the disembodied voices that Harry hears, lead him down into the Chamber of Secrets, to battle the heir of Slytherin. The book was published in the United Kingdom on 2 July 1998, following the successful publishing of Rowling's debut novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. A film based on the book and directed by Chris Columbus was released on 15 November 2002, and several video game adaptions were made by Electronic Arts and Aspyr.
The novel was published by Bloomsbury in the United Kingdom, Scholastic in the United States, and Raincoast in Canada. Upon publishing in the United Kingdom and the United States, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets moved quickly to the top of bestseller lists. Critics praised the novel's plot, although Graeme Davis called it the weakest book in the seven part Harry Potter series. [1] Several awards, including a Nestlé Smarties Book Prize have been awarded to the novel. Several Christian groups have expressed concerns that Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and the rest of the Harry Potter series, contain references to witchcraft or occultism. However, several other religious groups have also expressed their support for the series. "At least as much as they've been attacked from a theological point of view", commented Rowling, "[the books] have been lauded and taken into pulpit, and most interesting and satisfying for me, it's been by several different faiths"
