The selected texts are diverse both chronologically (from Old Hitite, Middle Hittite and New Hittite) and thematically (a historical record, a myth, a leter, an inventory text, a legal text). All texts are also available as autographs or photographs to make the orientation in the actual artefact easier but also to appreciate the state of damage and overall difculty of interpreting texts with many lacunas, ofen incomplete. This short reader should make Hitite accessible to a beginner but also to
specialists from other linguistic felds who seek to enrich their experience with old languages. Students of Indo-European linguistics will benefit from its referrence to the other branches of this linguistic family.
