Homological algebra is a ubiquitous subject: it is both an active field of research in its own right and a widespread toolbox for many mathematicians. As time passes, there is the danger that, while the amount of knowledge increases, it may split into subareas that will slowly drift apart and maybe even sever some very fruitful ties with other areas. With this in mind, in 2015 we organised an intensive research program hosted by the Centre de Recerca Matem`atica (CRM) in Bellaterra, centered around homological algebra as an area of shared interest between many mathematicians; our aim was to help slow the drift and give the opportunity for people to meet and learn from advances outside their daily area of work.
