Frank Radway's photographs do just that, with equal emphasis on the fashionable but fading Brahmins and the lusty, recently arrived Irish.From 1890 to 1930, Frank Radway was a hard-working photographer for the Boston Advertiser, later the Record American. Diligently and unobtrusively he amassed hundreds of pictures of Boston that showed the many facets of a rapidly changing city , from Brahmin social gatherings to meetings of political bosses. Daily events gave rise to novel pictures: an accident between a trolley car and a (then) new automobile, or a frightened matron hoisted unexpectedly from Tremont Street by a freight elevator.
