Sewing World 2017 №08
Traplet Publications. — 100 p.
Summer is here! We welcome the arrival of warmer weather and longer daylight hours which are just perfect for extra sewing time! And it’s a great opportunity to enjoy using some of those gorgeous lighter-weight summer fabrics, with their sunny colour and vibrant designs that lift our spirits.
The flattering Tie Front Dress is a perfect summer garment, that will take you from day to night - wear on the beach, or dress up it with a pair of heels for evening drinks. With short sleeves and an elegant tie belt to clinch everything in, it is comfortable and easy to wear too. The Pom Pom beach bag is a practical and fun make for your summer holiday and, being completely reversible, it allows you to change the colour of your bag to suit your outfit or mood! And to make sure you stay organized during your summer adventures, the Travel Document Holder helps keeps all your important documents safe and sound in a handy, fabric wallet.
Younger members of the family will love Stefan the Dachshund! In his adorable sailor costume, this gorgeous little sausage dog will bring a touch of summer into your home. A great project to make with kids are the Finger Puppets - fun and friendly animals made from recycled gloves, decorated to create some wonderfully characterful creatures. If you made the Felt Dress up Doll from the July issue of Sewing World, why not make her a home with the Grab and Go Doll’s House. With beautifully illustrated rooms, it also doubles up as a handy carry all for your doll and her extensive wardrobe! The little girls Beside the Seaside Skirt features bold beach themed prints and comes with a detachable, reversible bib, giving a multitude of wearing options. The matching reversible Sunhat is a must in hot weather and will suit boys and girls alike.
We also meet textile artist Betsy Greer and find out more about her work and involvement in the international Craftivism movement. We visit the inspiring online fabric and haberdasher Offset Warehouse, who specialise in beautifully hand-crafted and ethically produced fabrics from the around the world, and we join Mrs Bowden to discover new ways to have fun with ricrac! There’s so much to keep you busy, there’s almost no time for a holiday!
