Lewis S., McQuaid J., Tait D. Photography: Source & Resource: A Source Book for Creative Photography
Turnip Press, 1973. — 236 p.
Il may seem somewhat curious and unfortunate that a book dealing with a visual art form is, in the words of Edward Dahlbert, "Word-Sick and Place Crazy." It would also seem that a book- of words cannot really contain the wonder of photography; as Harold Jones said in another time and place, "how photographs dance." But contrary to external appearances, this compendium is a tentative introduction of where to look (mercifully not how to), where some objects are located, and a tantalizing series of interviews with some of the incredible people that make photography. If one will pause to appraise these accomplishments.
Source & Resource is quite a lot. It is unlikely that this chaste homage to Diderot and d'Alembert will become the Borgesian Aleph, but with a little luck, proper distribution, and a sympathetic, comprehending audience, it may become photography's TV Guide.
