This book has sprung by chance from my written text for a lecture, lasting
many hours, which I gave to the most talented young players of my
country. This lecture, which took place at the Chess School of the Yugoslav
Chess Fede ration in Belgrade 1999 , made a deep imp ression upon my chess
colleagues at home and, without any further help from me, the international
master Sinisa Joksic thought it was worth making a little book out of it and
published this in Se rbo -C roat in 2000 , while a second edition appea red in
German in 200 1.
Now has come the time to express my gratitude also to international
master Mr. Zoran Ilic, who on his own initiative completed the job by
making suggestions for an enlarged edition in English, and to his wife, Mrs.
Biljana Ilic who helped in the translation of my original manuscript.
