In the light of recent scholarly research this guide seeks to introduce readers to understandings of the theology, Christology and ethics of the Pastoral Epistles in the context of Christian traditions within the first and early second centuries of the Graeco-Roman world. Chapter One will consider the possible sources which may underlie the Pastorals, the influence of contemporary Hellenistic philosophy, and the question this raises about the coherence of the epistles. Chapter Two will explore the Pastorals' theology, Christology and ethics. Chapter Three will consider the problem of authorship and its possible solutions.
