He spent many summers on the Vineyard, and so was able to catch areas of the island in perfect conditions of light, cloud, etc. The photos of Menemsha after a hurricane are amazing, as are the now-eroded cliffs of Gay Head. The narrative adds greatly to the enjoyment of the book. A real treasure.
