Pratt Christina. An Encyclopedia of Shamanism. Volume 2. N-Z
New York: Rosen Publishing Group, 2007. — 368 p.
Shamanism can be defined as the practice of initiated shamans who are distinguished by their mastery of a range of altered states of consciousness. Shamanism arises from the actions the shaman takes in non-ordinary reality and the results of those actions in ordinary reality. It is not a religion, yet it demands spiritual discipline and personal sacrifice from the mature shaman who seeks the highest stages of mystical development.
Shaman, author, and teacher Christina Pratt is the director of the Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing in Portland, Oregon, and New York City. As an experienced healer and teacher, Pratt weaves her shamanic experience, her training, and her studies with shamans in Ecuador, Nepal, Tibet, and Africa into healing rituals for contemporary people in contemporary communities. She is on the faculties of the Omega Institute, the Rowe Center, and the Center for Spirituality and Healing at the University of Minnesota.
