Hargrave S. People and portrait photography
Amphoto, 1996. — 100 p.
Take one look at any family photo album and you will notice that one subject dominates everything we photograph - people. We all love taking pictures of each other as we enjoy each other's company and look forward to sitting down with the results, remembering the good times.
The only trouble is, taking pictures of people is not as easy as it seems. Unlike a landscape or still-life subject, a moving person needs to be posed and directed if you are to get the best out of him or her. This does not mean the photographer needs to get overly bossy, but they do need to follow a few simple guidelines on how to avoid the common portraiture mistakes we are all guilty of making.
This book is designed to bring these photographic techniques - such as framing, posing, and lighting - to the fore, so even those who swear they will never take another picture which crops grandmother's head off will have a photo album of which they can be proud.
