It's two days before the annual visit of Papa Red and the young elephants are very excited. They choose a tree to decorate and prepare the presents for Papa Red to collect during the night to take to those who need them. But this year Elmer has a special treat in store for the young elephants, if they can keep quiet and out of sight...
In this book, Elmer and his friends celebrate Christmas. Elmer is in charge of all the little elephants while the bigger elephants prepared the presents that were going to go under the tree. Elmer and the little elephants went out and retrieved the tree. Then when they brought it back all of the older elephants put the presents under it. The next day, Elmer went to meet Papa Red (who was their version of Santa Claus), and all of the little elephants hid in the bushes to see Papa Red while this happened. When Papa Red got there, Elmer gave him all the toys the older elephants wrapped under the tree. After he left, the young elephants were confused why Elmer gave all the toys away. Elmer told them that Papa Red takes all of those presents and gives them to who need it the most because Christmas is the season of giving. Later that night, Elmer gave all of the little elephants one present that Papa Red left for them.
