Hu J.W. Smart Connection Systems: Design and Seismic Analysis
CRC Press/Balkema, Leiden,The Netherlands, 2016, 404 p., ISBN: 1138027782, 978-1-138-02778-7
The major fields referred to in this book are architectural engineering, civil engineering, building construction, and structural engineering. The manuscript complies with the current design code. The author intends to write this book that can be utilized as technical teaching aids for undergraduate and graduate lectures. The author has continuously developed finite element models to accurately predict the response of smart structures under seismic loading. The contents of this book were written based on the author’s Ph.D. dissertation as well as journal papers in the references, and is made up of three parts with ten chapters.
Seismic design and analyses for smart PR-CFT (Partially restrained-concrete filled tube) connections are treated in Part 1. This part includes four chapters: (a) Introduction, (b) Design and modeling for smart PR-CFT connection system, (c) Analyses for smart PR-CFT connections – end plate connection type, and (d) Analyses for smart PR-CFT connections – T-stub connection type. Design and analyses for several bolted PR connections are investigated in Part 2. This part includes three chapters: (a) Refined FE (finite element) models for bolted connections, (b) Component spring models for bolted connections, and (c) Component models for recentering bolted connections. Finally, design and analyses for other smart connection systems are treated in Part 3. This part includes three chapters: (a) FE models for gusset plate connections, (b) recentering slit damper connections, and (c) smart damping connectors. All chapters are related to design and analyses for smart connection systems.
