As the new year commences, we’re looking for new ways to spend more quality time with the family and with our sewing machines. You might even call it our new year’s resolution!
That’s why we’ve packed Simply Sewing issue 12 with quick makes for the kids, your home and you. Here’s a peek at what’s inside…
This month, we’re invigorating playtime with tactile accessories that’ll spark your little one’s imagination. Issue 12′s playroom makes include quick-sew geometric bunting (perfect for using up fabric scraps), a kite height chart, jumbo jigsaw floor cushions, and a playmat that doubles as a handy storage bag.
Whether you’ve got a whole day set aside for sewing (what a luxury!) or just a couple of hours to spare, there’s a playroom project to suit. It’s time to bring your sewing machine out to play!
It’s not just about the kids, though – we’re making time for some selfish sewing, too! Discover how to sew the ultimate slouchy cardigan perfect for the school run (no pattern required!) and make a statement with a watch strap stitched up from a vintage scarf. Plus, give your sewing room a boost with a roll-up sewing caddy made from old jeans and a sweet scissor tidy.
We’ve also been chatting to some of our favorite designers, including The Whitepepper team, about how they find inspiration for their collections, and Malka Dubrawsky to find out why she’s going back to black after many years spent stitching in color.
Issue 12 also features the first of our all-new two-part sew along with the ultra-talented By Hand London ladies.
We’re big fans of their gorgeous sewing patterns, so we’re super excited to collaborate with them to bring you an exclusive sew along dress pattern – a circle-skirt dress with a fitted bodice and wide straps – called the Charlie Dress (share yours using #CharlieDress – we’d love to see!).
This dress will be a year-round favorite; layer with a long-sleeved top and tights now, and wear with sandals and sunnies in the summer.
In the first installment in issue 12, By Hand London will be taking you through how to construct the bodice for a neat and professional finish. Don’t miss it!
