Kirkland T.E. Civil War Veterans' Organizations, Reunions, and Badges
Union City, Tennessee: Pioneer Press, 1991. - 34 pgs. The thought of a Union or a Confederate reunion encampment is intriguing to all. Where and when were those 83 Union and 57 Confederate National Meetings held? How were the locations able to accommodate scores of thousands of veterans for a few days? How could they be transported without the automobile? Food was another question! Consider the stamps and mailings necessary to invite them to these 140 reconciliations. Who would wish to have 409,489 Union Veterans swarming all over Boston in 1890? These are but a few of the questions raised. The associated insignia consist of plastic buttons, metal stamping with and without ribbons, watch fobs, ribbons, banners, flags, and swords. Even souvenir canteens of brass metal and of fired china were issued.
