This book is the result of several years of research and it is not possible to quote all sources or indeed to mention all those who have so willingly helped. Some of those who gave the greatest assistance are no longer in their former positions. For British weapons the principal sources have been handbooks, lists, reports and summaries written in the war and immediate post-war periods. Among special items may be noted the Torpedo School reports, Confidential Admiralty Fleet Orders (CAFOs), Range Tables, Range and Elevation Scales, Guft Mounting Appropriation Lists, List of Change, Ordnance Board minutes and other papers, and Gun Registers.
