Aristotle wondered why we sleep. We still don't completely know why. This book discusses the biology of sleep in a casual, conversational tone. It assumes some knowledge of neurology and provides a 'refresher' chapter that is not exhaustive. It examines the nuts and bolts of sleep and waking, including the evolution of thinking about sleep, without overwhelming the reader with scientific charts. It includes a chapter about dreaming, but as a physiological, not psychological, concept. Sleep disorders (insomnia, apnea, etc) are also discussed.
