Lewis C.L.E., Knell S.J. (eds.) The Age of the Earth: from 4004 BC to AD 2002
London: Published by The Geological Society. - 2001. - 296 p. This book is dedicated to the memory of John Christopher Thackray (1948-1999), archivist at the Natural History Museum (NHM) and Geological Society. It evolved from Celebrating tlie Age of the Earth, the Geological Society's William Smith Millennium Meeting, convened in June 2000 by Cherry Lewis on behalf of the History of Geology Group (HOGG), of which Simon Knell was then a committee member. John had been chairman of HOGG since its foundation in 1992 and without him this project would never have happened. The idea began with a meeting between John and Cherry, as she sought material for her forthcoming book on Arthur Holmes.
